Built by George Neilson and Dennis Marshall of Neilson & Marshall joiners in Rutherglen at a cost of £100,000 started on August 1972 on a clear site and opening in november 1974, the build included 6 shops Aladins budget supermarket,a chip shop and a newsagents, the upper function suite held dinner dances every weekend and had guest artists from the 60s like the searchers and the rockin berries, the resident band for many years were the chessmen who were paid £40 per night, they also ran a fairly successful pool team,
Neilson and Marshall sold the pub in 1979 but kept the shops till 1986 when George sold his share to his business partner
